This week, we're in Tokyo, showing the latest innovations in the YouTube TV app on RDK at the YouTube Device Partner Summit!
For many years, Collabora has been collaborating with YouTube on multiple projects, notably the Device Automation Bus (DAB), an open source network protocol developed alongside Netflix and Amazon Prime Video that enables device manufacturers and application developers to remotely control a device under test. More recently, our team has also been focusing on the YouTube TV application on the RDK platform, an app powered by the Open Source Colbalt engine.
Cobalt has a porting layer called Starboard, which is meant to be implemented for each platform. A few years ago, we assisted the YouTube team in creating a standard Starboard implementation that works with all RDK variants. Previously, each RDK integrator had to build their own implementation, even though they ended up being nearly identical. This implementation is also Open Source as part of the RDK community.
Building on this foundation, we went further, integrating the RDK as one of the core platforms for Cobalt development alongside the Raspberry Pi. We have integrated RDK builds as part of the Cobalt CI and added tests running on RDK devices. This means that every Cobalt commit is now tested on the RDK.
If you are in Tokyo, come say hello!
