您好 Singapore!

After a great time in Portland last week for ELC, Collaborans have arrived in Singapore for the 2018 edition of FOSSASIA Summit, the premier Open Technology event in Asia for developers, contributors, start-ups, and technology companies. Taking place from March 22 to 25 at the Lifelong Learning Institute, the event attracts more than 3,000 attendees, making it the biggest Open Source gathering in Asia!

Andrew Lee and Héctor Orón Martínez will be attending and speaking at this year's edition, with two presentations and a workshop during the 4-day summit. As usual, you'll find the details of each of these events below.

Also noteworthy, both are members of the organizing committee of this year's DebConf, taking place at the end of July in Hsinchu, Taiwan! If you have any questions about DebConf18, or are thinking of attending, please let them know!

See you there!

Presentations

  • "Open Build Service in Debian" by Andrew Lee – Saturday, Mar. 24, 10:00 SGT.

It is impressive how much time and resources a team can save by using the OBS to manages their packages creation and distribution. OBS is a generic system to build and distribute packages from sources in an automatic, consistent and reproducible way. Andrew will cover the benefits of using OBS, explain some of it features and workflow for all your packaging and releasing needs, like automatically build package from scratch on multiple target distros and architectures, easy access through QA to the developer's repo to generate new images with the changes for testing before integration into the production repo, vcs-like workflow as branch code, send merge requests and review submissions and flexible to connect additional resources to empower the backend worker(builders) even with different architectures. At the end tips on how to setup and optimize OBS will be provided.

  • "Orchestrating Continuous Integration through Containers" by Héctor Orón Martínez – Sunday, Mar. 25, 15:30 SGT.

A case study on continuous integration (CI) pipeline for managing software distributions to build real life products. In this study, it shall be discussed how containerized FOSS tools can help on the project life cycle to bring products into market.

Workshop

  • "Open Build Service in Debian (workshop)" by Héctor Orón Martínez – Saturday, Mar. 24, 10:30 SGT.

Immediately following Andrew's presentation, Héctor will present a workshop on Open Build Service. During this workshop, he will run different configuration options and example cases to manage several distributions with OBS.
